Sithamoor or Mel Sithamoor is a village near Thindivanam where Jain monks lived. It is an important and historic place for tamil Jains. Sithamoor boasts of two Jain temples and a Jain Mutt which has traditionally hosted the religious heads of the community and has served as the center of Jain religious activites.
The History of Tamil Jainism in Sithamoor by Dr. A. Ekambranathan (Professor, Archeological department, Madras University) is a must read for anyone who is interested in understanding Sithamoor and its rich Tamil Jain cultural heritage and history.
You keep it up now, udnersatnd? Really good to know.
Hi, I’m a huge fan of your site and I want to thank you for your wonderful articles and photos. I had also commented on your http://www.tamiljains.org/thirumalai post, requesting you to upload pictures of the Sithamoor Jain Matha, which you have. These pictures are awesome and are the best pictures one can find of the Matha online. You have given Tamil Jain Mathas a wonderful online identity, which did not exist before. I’m an editor on Wikipedia and I’ve been meaning to create articles on the Sithamoor Jain Matha and the Thirumalai Jain Matha and link them to the existing article on Tamil Jains. For this, I would be using the articles on your site (while giving due credit to your original work). However, I would not be able to upload these wonderful pictures due to copyright issues. I request you to upload these pictures to Wikimedia Commons (commons.wikimedia.org) so that I may use them for the above mentioned articles.
We will seek permission from the owners of the photographs and subsequently upload them to wikimedia.. Are there specific pictures that you are interested in?
Pictures that capture the exterior of the temple, the manastambha, the temple complex, the gates, the main idol etc. are preferred as they present the viewer with a good idea of what the temple looks like. But if possible, please upload as many pictures as possible, this will help protect and promote Tamil Jain heritage.
